Before Your Visit
Home Up

To arrange a group tour of the museum, please call Jack Becvar at (253) 856-5185. Tours are available Wednesday through Saturday between the hours of 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, or by appointment. The museum can accommodate groups up to 100 people. There is no charge for group tours, but donations are welcome.

For ideas on how to help your group learn more at the museum, see Lesson Ideas.

Reviewing your visit schedule before you arrive at the museum will help your group get more from the tour. Children often have a better museum experience if they know what to expect before leaving the classroom. Here is an overview of a typical visit to the museum which may help you plan your day.

When the group first arrives, museum volunteers greet them and provide a short introduction to the museum and the Bereiter house.
Larger groups are often split into smaller groups of ten students each. Each floor of the museum can comfortably hold ten students and accompanying adults. Students will also tour the outside grounds, including the artwork Another Place, Another Time, and the carriage house.
An average museum tour lasts 45 minutes.
Students will receive flyers highlighting the Bereiter house's history.
Many groups choose to visit the Mill Creek Canyon Earthworks park, located across the street from the museum, following a tour. The park offers a pleasant environment for lunch.

You may also wish to review the following museum rules with your group before your visit.

No running.
No eating or drinking inside the museum.
No touching museum objects without permission.
Library voices should be used in the museum.
